Governance
The Swiss Personalized Health Network (SPHN) is a national data infrastructure mandated by the Swiss Confederation. It involves the leading health research actors in Switzerland under the responsibility of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences (SAMS) in collaboration with the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics. The network is supported by central teams at the SAMS and SIB – jointly referred to as the Data Coordination Center (DCC) – together with a nationwide network of hospitals, BioMedIT nodes and partners.
Mandate
The Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences (SAMS) is the overarching body of the SPHN initiative and the SPHN Data Coordination Center (DCC). For technical support, SAMS mandated the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics. Until 2024, both parties held individual mandates in the context of SPHN and BioMedIT.
Governing bodies
SPHN is governed by the following bodies:
- Steering Board (SB)
- Executive Board (EB)
- Sounding Board (SoBo)
- Hospital IT Strategy Alignment Group (HIT-STAG)
- Ethical Legal Social Implications Advisory Group (ELSIag)
- Data Governance Working Group (DGWG)
- BioMedIT Board
- National Data Streams (NDS) Board
Implementation
The SPHN Data Coordination Center (DCC) administers all SPHN bodies and is responsible for operationalization and execution of decisions. The SPHN DCC is operated by an implementation team employed by SAMS and SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics.
