MIE 2026: "Opening the Personal Gate between Technology and Health Care"

25 - 28 May 2026 | Genova, Italy

MIE 2026 (Medical Informatics Europe) is the annual conference of the European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI), bringing together researchers, practitioners, and innovators in medical and health informatics. The event will revolve around the theme of “Opening the Personal Gate between Technology and Healthcare”, exploring the integration of information technology, data science, artificial intelligence, and digital tools into real-world healthcare systems. Scientific topics include AI and data science in medicine, FAIR data and interoperability, digital health ecosystems, telemedicine, and education in health informatics, fostering interdisciplinary exchange and advancing the future of digitally supported healthcare.

Several contributions highlighting achievements and recent developments within the SPHN have been accepted for presentations:

  • “Interoperability of Swiss Personalized Health Network RDF Schema with FHIR”, presented by Deepak Unni (SPHN) in collaboration with Sophie Klopfenstein (Berlin Institute of Health, Germany)
  • “Seeing is believing - FAIR metadata for Medical Imaging data in the SPHN Semantic Interoperability Framework”, presented by Harald Witte (SPHN) in collaboration with Edwin ter Voert (University of Zurich, Switzerland) (Read preprint)
  • “Five years of the SPHN RDF journey: FAIR enough?”, presented by Vasundra Touré (SPHN) (Read preprint)

In addition, SPHN will contribute to a workshop on international metadata harmonization:

  • “Metadata Schemas to Facilitate Reuse of Health Data in Research: Towards Aligning National Infrastructures Across Europe” with contributions from Deepak Unni and Vasundra Touré (both SPHN)

The opportunity to present so many pieces of work at a prestigious international conference reflects the great international appreciation of the work of SPHN and all partners involved.
