SPHN launches its Call for Demonstrator projects

17.05.2022

SPHN has launched its call for “Demonstrator” projects. These projects aim to demonstrate the added value of SPHN data resources and infrastructure elements for data-driven personalized health research, clinical and public health research, and clinical use.

Submission deadline for applications is 31 August 2022.

Demonstrator projects use the established SPHN infrastructures, processes, and frameworks to demonstrate utility and fit-for-purpose of those SPHN ecosystem elements and to identify remaining gaps. Projects may be situated in the following two areas: First, in real-world application or transferability of locally developed (along the goals of SPHN or as part of SPHN-funded projects) data infrastructure components or data processing tools. Second, SPHN supports projects that leverage the potential and validate the use of routine healthcare data from the university hospitals’ Clinical Data Warehouses (CDW) for translational and clinical research projects, clinical trials or other real-world use cases.

More information on the data available at the Clinical Data Management Systems of the five university hospitals can be found in the SPHN metadata catalogue.

Importantly, Demonstrator projects shall not build new infrastructure from scratch, but consolidate what has been started, complement missing links, and assess applicability and impact on clinical decision making and personalized health research.

SPHN will allocate approximately CHF 3.7 million for Demonstrator projects, that are conceived as proof-of-concept projects envisaged to span 12-18 month and can be funded with up to CHF 500’000 max. Funding by SPHN requires matching contributions by the applicant institutions.
