The Confederation renews the mandate of the Swiss Academies of Medical Sciences (SAMS) and the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics for a second SPHN funding period for 2021 to 2024. A total budget of 66.9 Mio CHF is foreseen.
After the successful establishment of many new infrastructures, technologies and methods enabling researchers and clinicians to integrate large sets of sensitive health data in a responsible, ethical and legal manner, the next phase of SPHN will focus on their real-world implementation, consolidation, and long-term sustainability. By 2024, the basis for an independent national center for biomedical and health research data needs to be established. To reach these goals, SPHN works in close cooperation with the Personalized Health and Related Technologies Program (PHRT) of the ETH domain, university hospitals and further national and international partners.
SPHN is contributing to making health data sharable and usable for research. In the coming years, this stream of data needs to feed back to clinical care to build a sustainable, personalized medicine ecosystem in Switzerland.
