Webinar: "Unlocking the power of FAIR Data with the SPHN Metadata Catalog"
Interoperability Across National and International Metadata Catalogs
06 May 2026 | ZOOM | 11:00-12:00am (Zurich Switzerland time)
Join us for an in‑depth webinar introducing the SPHN Metadata Catalog, a platform designed to make datasets from Swiss health data providers and research consortia easier to find, explore, request, and reuse for research. You will also hear from experts at the Swiss Federal Statistical Office (FSO) and the Health‑RI Initiative (Netherlands), who will demonstrate how their cataloging efforts connect within broader national and international data ecosystems.
Target Audience
This webinar is tailored for IT professionals, data stewards, and interoperability specialists working in national or international data environments.
Why attend?
The SPHN Metadata Catalog offers a user-friendly interface for exploring project and dataset metadata and interactively visualizing data availability - supporting both human users and automated tools. Built on the FAIR Data Point specification, and aligned with the HealthDCAT Application Profile of the European Health Data Space (EHDS), the SPHN Metadata Catalog enhances the FAIRness of datasets available in SPHN and enables seamless interoperability with other national and international metadata catalogs.
During the webinar, speakers will present the SPHN Metadata Catalog, highlight complementary cataloging initiatives from the FSO and Health-RI, and demonstrate how these systems interoperate to support a more integrated research data landscape.
Agenda
Part 1 – The SPHN Metadata Catalog
Dr. Sabine Österle (SPHN, Lead Semantic Interoperability Strategy & FAIR Data Team)
An introduction to the architecture and components of the SPHN Metadata Catalog, including the FAIR Data Point specification and the SPHN Schema Scope. Learn how researchers can explore metadata and visualize data schemas interactively.
Part 2 – Interoperability with I14Y (Swiss National Interoperability Platform)
Floriane Pochon Levit (FSO, Product Owner I14Y)
Discover how SPHN metadata integrates with I14Y, the national metadata catalog operated by the FSO, increasing the visibility and discoverability of health research metadata within the Swiss data ecosystem.
Part 3 – Interoperability with the Health-RI Data Catalog?
Dr. Niek van Ulzen, (HealthRI, Senior data steward)
Learn how Health‑RI uses HealthDCAT-AP to connect its national health data catalog to the European one (HealthData@EU) and how federated SPARQL queries bridge beyond the EHDS, reaching catalogs like SPHN in Switzerland.
