NZZ Podium on Personalized Medicine

20 November 2024 | Zürich

Switzerland offers some of the best healthcare in the world, with excellent quality of care and high patient satisfaction. In recent years, particularly promising advancements have personalised medicine, also known as precision medicine.

These treatments are tailored to individual patients, enabling more accurate diagnoses and personalized therapies. This leads to better treatment outcomes.

While personalized therapies offer significant opportunities, they also bring challenges. Can the general public benefit from them? Do they lead to more cost-effective treatments? And what about ethical concerns, accessibility, and data protection?

The speakers for this discussion include Thomas Geiger, Managing Director of SPHN; Simon Häfliger, oncologist at Inselspital and researcher in the National Datastream Project for Oncology; Catherine Jutzeler, ETH professor and researcher in the National Datastream Project for Infections in Intensive Care Units; and Myriam DeLeone, General Manager of the biotechnology company Amgen.
