Frailty is an age-related medical syndrome related to disproportionate functional decline and increased vulnerability in older adults. It has been linked to multiple negative health outcomes even in the face of only minor stressors, ranging from urinary tract infections to medical interventions. Frailty leads to multiple adverse health outcomes including premature death. It can be diagnosed by clinical screening tools and also be operationalized by a deficit accumulation frailty index. While frailty is still underdiagnosed in clinical care of older adults today, more and more health-related data become available electronically. As an SPHN driver project, the SFNR has 5 main goals to be achieved among the 5 University Hospitals in Switzerland. Read the abstract...
